SUBJECT: 2017 Granville P. Meade Scholarship

The Virginia Department of Education announces the Granville P. Meade Scholarship which provides financial assistance to students who have achieved academically, but who are financially unable to attend college.  The Granville P. Meade fund awards scholarships to eligible Virginia high school seniors to attend one of Virginia’s public or private colleges or universities.  Additional information about the scholarship is in Attachment A-This is a Word document., and Attachment B-This is a Word document. contains the scholarship application.

Principals of all public and nonpublic high schools are requested to assist in making students aware of this scholarship opportunity.  It is anticipated that the scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $2,000 per year for four years, provided the student continues to meet the scholarship requirements.

The application and selection timeline is as follows:

March 10, 2017	Deadline for public and private school students to submit scholarship application to their high school principal.
March 24, 2017	Deadline for principals at public and private schools to forward selected applications to the division or association office.
April 14, 2017	Deadline for the public school division superintendents to forward the five selected school applications to the chairperson of their regional study group screening committee.  (Attachment C-This is a PDF document.) (Not applicable for private/home school applicants)

May 26, 2017	Notification by the Virginia Department of Education of scholarship recipients.
